UDODI ONWUZURIKE HAILS NSC, AFN AFTER COMMONWEALTH GAMES MEDAL HAUL

Nigeria's sprint sensation, Udodi Onwuzurike, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, as well as the President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa, for giving him the opportunity and support to represent Nigeria at the just-concluded 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The American-based sprinter, who won a silver medal in the men's 200 metres and a bronze medal in the men's 4x100 metres relay, described representing Nigeria on the international stage as a dream come true.

"Coming to represent your country comes with a special feeling, and this is what I have always dreamed of—to represent Nigeria and perform very well," Onwuzurike said.

He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the green and white colours of Nigeria, stressing that he has always been ready to answer the nation's call.

"I am one athlete who is always ready whenever I am called upon to wear the green jersey of my country. I will always be available and ready to give my very best for Nigeria whenever I am called," he added.

Onwuzurike also commended the National Sports Commission for the exceptional motivation and encouragement provided to Team Nigeria before and throughout the Commonwealth Games, noting that the athletes were inspired to give their all.

He equally appreciated his Family for their Prayers and Support and the coaches for their dedication, guidance, and belief in his abilities, saying their support played a major role in his impressive performances in Glasgow.

The medals further cement Onwuzurike's status as one of Nigeria's brightest sprint stars, with the 200m silver and 4x100m relay bronze adding to his growing list of international achievements as he continues to fly the nation's flag with pride.
