Senegal President Receives IMF Delegation as Talks Focus on Economic Cooperation

President of the Republic of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, received a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the Palace of the Republic following the conclusion of the Fund’s latest mission to Dakar.

The IMF delegation was led by Mrs. Mercedes Vera Martin, the Fund’s Mission Chief for Senegal, and included Mr. Majdi Debbich, Mrs. Tatiana Mossot, and Mr. Wautabouna Ouattara, the Administrator representing Senegal on the IMF Board of Directors.

Also present at the meeting were Senegal’s Minister of Economy, Finance and Planning, Mr. Cheikh Diba, and the Minister Delegate in charge of Budget, Mr. Bassirou Sarr.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the conclusions of the IMF mission, which had been underway in Dakar since August 19, while also discussing the next phase of cooperation between Senegal and the international financial institution.

The discussions centred on the outcome of the mission’s assessment and the broader economic relationship between Senegal and the IMF, as both sides continue engagements on the country’s economic and financial outlook.

President Faye’s meeting with the IMF delegation underscores the importance attached by his administration to international economic partnerships as Senegal works to strengthen its public finances, advance economic reforms and pursue sustainable development.

The conclusion of the mission marks another step in the ongoing dialogue between Senegal and the IMF, with both sides expected to maintain cooperation on issues critical to the country’s economic stability and development.
