Rangers International FC of Enugu have formally petitioned the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following reported incidents involving visiting supporters during and after their CAF Champions League fixture against MC Alger at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
The Nigerian champions, in a club statement dated Monday, October 19, expressed concern over alleged acts of violence and disorder that reportedly occurred during and after the encounter.
According to the statement, the club raised concerns over the reported destruction of a stadium entrance gate, unauthorised entry without payment of gate fees, vandalism of stadium seats and other acts of disorder.
Rangers said the petition was aimed at drawing CAF's attention to the incidents and securing the necessary intervention ahead of the return leg of the continental encounter.
Rangers Request Urgent CAF Intervention
As part of its petition, the Enugu-based club has called on CAF to urgently examine the situation and consider appropriate precautionary measures before the second leg, scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026, in Algiers, Algeria.
The club's request comes amid concerns over the safety of players, officials, supporters and other stakeholders as both teams prepare for the decisive return fixture.
Rangers emphasised their commitment to fair play, respect for football regulations and the protection of everyone involved in the game.
The club also expressed confidence in CAF's established procedures, stating that it would await the continental governing body's response to its petition.
Club Appeals for Calm Ahead of Return Leg
Meanwhile, Rangers International have appealed to their supporters to remain calm, disciplined and focused as the team prepares for the return leg in Algeria.
The club thanked its supporters for their continued loyalty and urged everyone to maintain good conduct during the build-up to the encounter.
The statement concluded with the club's familiar rallying cry: "Never Say Die."
The outcome of Rangers' petition and any possible action by CAF could become significant ahead of Friday's return fixture, as the Nigerian side seeks to progress in Africa's premier club competition.
