Paul Edeh Backs Super Falcons to Beat Cameroon, Praises Madugu’s Leadership

The Chairman of the Benue State Football Association and Founder of Naija Reitel Football Club, Chief Dr. Paul Edeh, has expressed confidence in the Super Falcons ahead of their WAFCON quarter-final clash against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon.

Speaking to FAKS MEDIA on Saturday, the Benue State FA boss praised Super Falcons Head Coach, Justine Madugu, for the way he has handled the team throughout the competition.

Edeh noted that although there have been changes to the squad compared with the team that won the last Women's Africa Cup of Nations, the players have continued to demonstrate character and resilience.

According to him, the disappointing opening defeat to Malawi could have affected the team's confidence, but the Super Falcons quickly recovered, winning their remaining group-stage matches to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

“Coach Justine Madugu has done tremendously well handling the team. If you compare the present team with the team that won the last WAFCON, you will observe that there have been some changes.

“After the disappointing loss in the first game against Malawi, the team quickly picked themselves up and won their remaining games to qualify for the quarter-finals against Cameroon,” Edeh said.

The Benue FA Chairman also pointed to Nigeria's historical advantage over Cameroon, saying the Super Falcons have generally enjoyed the upper hand in competitive meetings between both nations, despite the recent friendly matches between the two sides.

He believes the experience within the Nigerian squad could prove decisive when both teams meet.

“Looking at the records between Nigeria and Cameroon, the Super Falcons have always had an edge, even though the recent friendly matches have shown that Cameroon cannot be taken for granted.

“But with the experienced players we have in the Nigerian team, I believe the Super Falcons should be able to beat Cameroon and progress to the semi-finals,” he added.

Edeh urged the players to remain focused, disciplined and confident, stressing that the quarter-final represents another opportunity for the Super Falcons to demonstrate their quality and defend Nigeria's reputation as one of the leading forces in women's football in Africa.
