Orji Kalu: I'll Quit APC If Tinubu Ever Disrespects the Catholic Church

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has declared that he would resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC) if President Bola Tinubu ever disrespects the Catholic Church.

Kalu made the statement on Wednesday during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, while reacting to the controversy surrounding President Tinubu's recent meeting with the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN).

The former Abia State governor, who is a devout Catholic, said he remains committed to both his political party and his faith, stressing that respect for the Catholic Church is non-negotiable.

He dismissed claims that the president had shown any form of disrespect to the Church, insisting that Tinubu has maintained cordial relations with religious leaders and that the meeting with the Catholic bishops should not be misinterpreted.

Kalu emphasized that while he is loyal to the APC and supports President Tinubu's administration, his allegiance to his faith comes first. He maintained that he would not hesitate to leave the ruling party if the president ever acted in a manner that undermined or disrespected the Catholic Church.

His remarks come amid ongoing public discussions over the nature and outcome of the president's engagement with the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria.
