Okowa Salutes Nathaniel, Onwuzurike for Flying Nigeria's Flag High at Commonwealth Games

President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Tonobok Okowa, has congratulated Team Nigeria stars Ezekiel Nathaniel and Udodi Onwuzurike for their outstanding performances at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

Okowa, who is also Senior Vice President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), President of CAA Region II, praised Ezekiel Nathaniel for producing a brilliant performance to win the gold medal in the men's 400m hurdles in 48.47secs describing the achievement as a testament to hard work, resilience, and Nigeria's growing dominance in athletics.

He said Nathaniel's victory has once again made the nation proud and inspired the next generation of athletes.

The AFN President also lauded Udodi Onwuzurike for his impressive silver medal finish in the men's 200m with a season best of 20.09s, noting that the sprinter displayed courage, determination, and the true fighting spirit that Nigerians are known for.

He commended Udodi for battling against a strong field from the outer lane and delivering a performance worthy of national recognition.

“I want to urge the two stars to remain focused as they continue to represent Nigeria on the global stage. I assure them of the federation's continued support. This remarkable achievement reflects the progress of Nigerian athletics and I am confident that Team Nigeria will secure more medals before the end of the championships”, Okowa stated.

Three Nigerian quarter milers, Samuel Ogazi(m), Edidiong Udo(m) and Ella Onojuvwevwo. (f) will by Noon today file out in both the men’s and women’s 400m finals.

Nigeria’s 4x100m men and women relay team will also compete in the Heats this afternoon ahead of the finals later this night.
