The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has revealed that the individuals who will serve on the proposed Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Normalisation Committee will be selected based on credibility, integrity and competence, stressing that membership may not necessarily be restricted to football stakeholders.

Dikko made the disclosure while speaking on Arise Television on Friday morning, as discussions continue over the Federal Government’s proposed reforms in Nigerian football.

According to the NSC Chairman, the priority in constituting the Normalisation Committee is to ensure that those appointed are people of proven character who can be trusted to carry out the assignment objectively and in the best interest of Nigerian football.

He explained that the committee members do not necessarily have to be individuals who have been directly involved in football administration, provided they possess the required credibility and competence to handle the responsibility.

No Committee Member Will Contest NFF Elections

In what could be a major safeguard against conflict of interest, Mallam Shehu Dikko also stated that no member of the Normalisation Committee will be allowed to contest in the next NFF elective congress.

The decision, he said, is intended to ensure that members of the committee remain neutral and focused on the reform and normalisation process without using their positions as a platform to pursue personal political ambitions within the NFF.

The Chairman's position is expected to generate significant interest among football stakeholders, particularly as Nigeria prepares for a broader restructuring of football administration.

The Federal Government has been pushing for reforms aimed at strengthening governance, accountability, stakeholder representation and the overall administration of Nigerian football.

Dikko's latest comments suggest that the proposed Normalisation Committee could be deliberately constituted outside the traditional football-administration circle, with emphasis placed on integrity, independence and credibility.
