NESIAMA GETS WORLD ATHLETICS APPOINTMENT FOR DAKAR YOUTH OLYMPICS GAMES

Former Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and Chairman, Nigeria Olympic Committee Technical and Development Commission,Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (Rtd.), has received another major international appointment, as World Athletics has designated him as an International Starter for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.

The appointment further underlines the growing international recognition of Nesiama’s expertise in athletics officiating and technical administration.

Nesiama has continued to earn prestigious assignments on the global stage. In 2026, he officiated at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, becoming the first Nigerian appointed as a referee for the World Athletics Relays.

The retired Naval Commodore has also been selected by World Athletics and the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) for a referee mentoring programme at the 2026 African Championships in Accra, Ghana.

World Athletics' official July 2026 Council decisions also list Omatseye Nesiama (NGR) as an International Starter, confirming his standing within the international technical officiating structure.

His latest assignment in Dakar represents another significant milestone, not only for Nesiama but for Nigeria's growing presence in the technical and officiating side of international athletics.
