MY PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS: TWO GAMES, SAME PATTERN! ⚽
Having watched two league matches in Lagos this weekend, I noticed a similar pattern in both games. Interestingly, the two matches produced almost the same story, despite involving different teams.
On Saturday, Ikorodu City defeated Kwara United 2-0, while on Sunday, Sporting Lagos edged Bendel Insurance 2-1.
My observation?
Both home teams started their games with high intensity, putting their opponents under pressure and taking their chances to score goals in the first half.
However, in the second half, the story changed. The home teams appeared to lose some of their energy, allowing the visiting teams to take control of the games and push forward in search of goals.
Unfortunately for the away teams, their inability to convert their scoring opportunities meant they could not fully capitalise on the situation.
Watching these two matches back-to-back has left me thinking about the importance of fitness, game management, tactical adjustments and clinical finishing in our league.
Football is not just about how you start a game; it is also about how you manage it until the final whistle.
For me, these are areas our coaches and players must continue to work on if we want to see further improvement in the standard of our domestic league.
Two matches. Two home wins. Almost the same pattern.
These are my personal observations from the two NPFL matches I watched this weekend in Lagos.
What is your take on this observation? Do our teams need to improve their second-half performance and game management?
