MONDAY ODIGIE BACKS BAYELSA UNITED FOR QUICK RETURN TO NPFL
By Ohis Asein
Former Bendel Insurance coach Monday Odigie has expressed confidence in Bayelsa United’s ability to secure a quick return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), insisting that the club has the pedigree, support and leadership required to regain its place in the country’s top-flight football.
Odigie, who spoke exclusively tofaksmedia.comon Tuesday morning, said he was optimistic about the Prosperity Boys’ chances of bouncing back following their relegation, citing the passion of the Bayelsa State Governor for sports and the commitment of the club’s chairman, Dr Peter Singabele.
According to the former Bayelsa United gaffer, the combination of committed leadership, quality recruitment and the unwavering support of the club’s fans could prove decisive in the team’s quest for promotion.
“The present governor is passionate about sports, and I also know the pedigree of the present chairman of the club, Dr Peter Singabele, and his passion for football. With good players being recruited, Bayelsa United deserves a quick promotion,” Odigie said.
The former coach described Bayelsa United as a big club in Nigerian football, pointing to its history as a former league champion and the loyalty of its supporters as reasons the team deserves to return to the NPFL as soon as possible.
He stressed that the club's history and standing in Nigerian football should serve as motivation for the players and management as they begin their campaign in the Nigeria National League (NNL).
“Bayelsa United is a big team in Nigeria, a former league champion with passionate supporters. The club deserves a place in the NPFL. As a former coach, my prayers are with the team to return to the top flight soon,” he added.
Odigie's remarks will provide encouragement to the club's supporters as Bayelsa United prepare to begin their campaign in the second-tier NNL, with the immediate objective of securing promotion back to the elite division.
The Prosperity Boys are scheduled to kick-start their new chapter in the NNL with a home fixture against Abia Comets on November 8.
The encounter will mark the beginning of an important journey for the Bayelsa-based side, who will be hoping to turn their ambitions into results and make an immediate push for promotion.
With the backing of the state government, the leadership of Dr Peter Singabele and the expectations of their passionate supporters, Bayelsa United will be aiming to make their time in the NNL as brief as possible.
For Odigie, a quick return to the NPFL would be a welcome development for a club whose history, achievements and supporters have earned it a place among the notable names in Nigerian football.
