Goalkeeper Joshua Baba has apologised to the management of Bendel Insurance FC of Benin following his sudden disappearance, which prompted the club to declare him wanted before he eventually reappeared in Lagos over the weekend.
In what appears to be a moment of reflection and a desire for a fresh start, the goalkeeper has expressed regret over his actions, extending his heartfelt apology to everyone who may have been affected by his absence.
Speaking exclusively toFAKSMEDIA.COMin Lagos on Sunday, Baba admitted that what happened was unfortunate and appealed to the club's management, the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, the technical crew, his teammates and the club's supporters to forgive him.
The goalkeeper acknowledged that his unexplained absence may have caused concern within the team and potentially affected the club's preparations and activities.
With a tone of remorse, Baba expressed his readiness to put the incident behind him, return to training and once again contribute his quota to the success of the Benin Arsenal.
He also promised to demonstrate better behaviour going forward, giving assurances that he would learn from the incident and strive to avoid a recurrence.
"I am sorry for what has happened. I sincerely apologise to the management of Bendel Insurance, the Chairman of the Sports Commission, the technical crew, my teammates and our supporters. I am ready to return to training and help my team once again. I promise to conduct myself better," Baba said.
His apology comes after the uncertainty surrounding his whereabouts raised questions about his commitment to the club and his immediate future with the Benin-based side.
For a club whose supporters expect dedication, discipline and commitment from every player who wears its colours, the goalkeeper's disappearance was an unwelcome development.
However, his reappearance and willingness to apologise could provide an opportunity for reconciliation, provided the club's management is satisfied with his explanation and is prepared to give him another chance.
Football remains a game built not only on talent but also on discipline, responsibility and mutual respect between players, coaches, management and supporters.
For Baba, the immediate task is to back up his words with actions, regain the confidence of the club's hierarchy and demonstrate through his conduct that he remains committed to the Bendel Insurance cause.
Whether the incident will be put completely behind him now rests on the next steps taken by both the goalkeeper and the club.
For now, Joshua Baba has made his position clear: he is sorry, he wants to return to training, and he is ready to help Bendel Insurance FC once again.
