Chairman of the Nigeria Football Referees Appointment Committee and former FIFA-badge referee, Faith Irabor, has charged Nigerian referees to uphold the Laws of the Game as the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season enters Week Four.

Speaking tofaksmedia.comon Friday, the soft-spoken former referee said she was pleased with the standard of officiating so far, noting that there had been no major complaints while urging referees to remain focused despite the pressures associated with their duties.

“So far, there have not been complaints, and I know that our referees are ready to officiate according to the rules despite the pressure here and there.

“Anyone found wanting will be punished immediately. We will continue to ensure that our referees uphold the Laws of the Game and maintain the standards expected of them,” Irabor said.

She added that Nigerian referees are increasingly attracting international recognition, with some receiving appointments to officiate matches on the continent.

“Ohis, I can assure you that our referees are eager to officiate at the biggest stages on the continent. As you have seen in recent times, some of our referees are being invited to officiate international matches.

“This is a sign that Nigerian referees are making progress, and we must continue to encourage them to maintain the highest standards,” she added.

With the NPFL season entering its fourth week, Irabor urged match officials to remain professional, impartial and committed to enforcing the Laws of the Game throughout the campaign.
