AMASSOMA, BAYELSA STATE — The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Central Zone has issued a fierce condemnation of Niger Delta University (NDU) following a sudden and substantial increase in tuition and administrative fees, warning that the regional body will not hesitate to mobilize peaceful protests if the decision is not reversed.

In a press statement released by the leadership of Dr. Enebraye Patrick Orusengha, the Council expressed grave concern over the financial burden placed on families already grappling with severe economic hardship. The youth organization emphasized that education within regional institutions must remain affordable and accessible to all, rather than becoming a luxury for a privileged few.

To address the situation, the IYC leadership has dispatched Comrade Fidelis Agbogidi, the Student Representative for the Central Zone, on an emergency fact-finding mission to Amassoma. Comrade Agbogidi is tasked with interfacing directly with the NDU Student Union Government (SUG) and the Dean of Student Affairs to evaluate the full scope of the fee hike and deliver a comprehensive report to council leadership.

While reaffirming its preference for constructive dialogue with university authorities, the IYC made its stance clear: all legitimate avenues of engagement, including peaceful mass demonstrations, remain firmly on the table should school administrators fail to offer a realistic and affordable framework.

In the meantime, the Council has urged the NDU student body to maintain calm, avoid lawlessness, and allow formal diplomatic proceedings to run their course.
