Fubara New Political Direction Puts Loyalists at a Crossroads

Governor Siminalayi Fubara recent declaration that he is ready to work with the Rainbow Coalition led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reshaped the political conversation in Rivers State.

For months, many of Fubara supporters had maintained that their loyalty was to him alone and that they would never align with Wike, whose political disagreement with the governor divided the state political landscape. Their unwavering support was built on the belief that Fubara represented a different political direction.

However, the governor latest statement has placed many of those loyalists in a difficult position. By publicly declaring that he is back in the political family and calling on his supporters to work with the Rainbow Coalition, Fubara has effectively challenged them to choose between their previous position and their loyalty to him.

Politics has shown repeatedly that many supporters follow the direction of the leader they trust. Some of Fubara followers are therefore expected to embrace the reconciliation and move with him into the Rainbow Coalition.
