The ₦50 million announced by the Edo State Governor, His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo, for the victorious Edo Queens is certainly commendable and appreciated. However, considering what these girls have achieved for Edo State and the number of players, coaches, officials, backroom staff and other stakeholders who contributed to this historic success, I honestly believe ₦50 million is not enough.

The Edo Queens have just achieved something remarkable — winning the Nigeria Women Football League and then going on to conquer the WAFU B Champions League. They have become worthy ambassadors of Edo State, carrying the name of our dear state beyond Nigeria.

This reward is not only about the players. There are coaches, technical officials, backroom staff, administrators and other members of the team who all played important roles in this success. There are also supporters and stakeholders who have stood firmly behind the team.

My concern is that if the money is shared among everyone who deserves to benefit, the amount each person eventually receives may become too small to adequately reflect the magnitude of this achievement.

And there is a bigger challenge ahead. The

Edo Queens will now be representing the region on a much bigger stage, with the major tournament in South Africa ahead. This is not the time to create financial pressure around a team that has already made Edo State proud.

MY HUMBLE APPEAL TO THE GOVERNOR

Your Excellency, ₦100 million to ₦200 million is not too much for these worthy ambassadors of Edo State.

If the government can increase the reward, it will not only motivate the players and officials but also send a powerful message that Edo State values excellence, hard work and sporting achievement.

These girls have put Edo State on the map. Let us give them a reward that matches the history they have made.

Your Excellency, please, consider increasing the reward.

Edo Queens deserve it. Edo State deserves it. And the future of women's football in Edo State will benefit from it.
