Nigeria champions Edo Queens announced their arrival in emphatic fashion at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, cruising to a sensational 7-0 victory over AS Garde Nationale of Niger in their opening Group B encounter.

The Nigerian champions wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Chioma Moses opening the scoring in the fifth minute to give Edo Queens an early advantage.

Moses doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time, converting from the penalty spot to send Edo Queens into the break with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.

The second half turned into a goal-scoring exhibition.

Atume Doosuur made it 3-0 just two minutes after the restart before completing her brace in the 56th minute.

Aminat Folorunsho added a fifth six minutes later as Edo Queens continued to overwhelm their opponents.

Moses then completed her hat-trick in the 76th minute, producing a standout individual performance and further underlining her importance to the Nigerian champions.

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi put the icing on the cake in the third minute of stoppage time, sealing an emphatic 7-0 victory.

Moses was deservedly named Woman of the Match after her outstanding display, with three goals highlighting her clinical finishing and attacking influence.

The victory gives Edo Queens an impressive start to their continental campaign as they seek another appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Edo Queens previously won the WAFU-B qualifying tournament on their debut in 2024 before finishing fourth at the CAF Women’s Champions League later that year.

The team entered this year’s campaign with confidence, with assistant coach Gabriel Benson insisting before the tournament that the players were ready to represent Nigeria and Edo State with pride.

They have now backed those words with a statement performance.

Edo Queens will next face ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire on August 27 before concluding their Group B campaign against Ampem Darkoa Ladies of Ghana on August 30.

With seven goals already on the board and Chioma Moses leading the attack, the Nigerian champions have sent an early warning to their WAFU-B rivals.

Edo Queens mean business.
