Edo FA Chairman Hails Christian Football League Over Successful Launch of “Football Goes to Church” Campaign

The Chairman of the Edo State Football Association (Edo FA), Mr. Fred Newton Erhunmwunse, has congratulated the Chairman of the Christian Football League (CFL), Mr. Kennedy Imana, the league’s executive members, and the entire planning committee on the successful launch of the“Football Goes to Church”campaign.

The initiative, which officially kicked off on Saturday, August 1, 2026, is designed to foster stronger ties between football and the Christian community while promoting youth development, moral values, unity, and grassroots football through faith-based engagement.

Mr. Erhunmwunse described the initiative as a commendable and forward-thinking programme that reflects the growing role of football as a tool for social transformation and community development.

“The ‘Football Goes to Church’ campaign is a welcome initiative that has the capacity to usher in a new era of football development in our society. It also reinforces the important role religion plays in shaping positive values, promoting unity, and nurturing responsible young people through the game of football,”he said.

“As football administrators, we must continue to embrace innovative platforms that encourage participation, discover talents, and promote the values of discipline, respect, and peaceful coexistence. This campaign is a perfect example of how football can be used to positively impact lives beyond the field of play.”

The Edo FA Chairman applauded Mr. Kennedy Imana and the Christian Football League leadership for their vision and commitment in bringing the initiative to life, noting that such programmes complement the Association’s drive to expand grassroots football and create more opportunities for young talents across Edo State.

He also extended special appreciation to the Special Adviser on Youth Mobilization and Strategy to the Executive Governor of Edo State,Hon. Christopher Udobor Iyase, for gracing the occasion with his presence. According to Mr. Erhunmwunse, Hon. Iyase’s attendance reflects the Edo State Government’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and the development of sports as a catalyst for social and economic growth.

“The presence of Hon. Christopher Udobor Iyase at the event demonstrates the government’s continued support for meaningful youth-focused initiatives. His encouragement serves as an inspiration to stakeholders working tirelessly to use football as a platform for development and nation-building,”he added.

Mr. Erhunmwunse reaffirmed the Edo State Football Association’s commitment to collaborating with organisations and stakeholders whose programmes align with the Association’s vision of strengthening grassroots football, promoting talent discovery, and using the sport as a vehicle for unity and community development.

He wished the Christian Football League continued success as the “Football Goes to Church” campaign progresses and expressed confidence that the initiative would leave a lasting legacy in football development and youth engagement across Edo State.
