Cameroon Athletics President Hails Emmanuel Eseme's Historic Commonwealth Games Triumph

The President of the Cameroon Athletics Federation, Mr. Motomby Mbome Emmanuel, has congratulated Cameroon's fastest man, Emmanuel Eseme, on his historic victory in the men's 100 metres at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Speaking exclusively to Faksmedia, Mr. Motomby described Eseme's journey as a remarkable story of humility, determination and perseverance.

"The story of Emmanuel Eseme is a story of humility and determination. He came into athletics as a civil engineer and a footballer, where he played as a goalkeeper. He came to participate in a competition, and I insisted that he should be given the opportunity to compete. After the race, he won, and from that moment he decided to switch from football to athletics. Since then, he has never looked back," Motomby said.

The Cameroon Athletics President recalled that Eseme also won the men's 100m title at the 2024 African Championships in Accra, Ghana, a performance that announced him as one of Africa's leading sprinters.

"With this Commonwealth Games victory, Emmanuel Eseme has written his name in the history of athletics. We in Cameroon are extremely proud of his performance and what he has achieved for our country," he added.

Eseme produced a sensational performance in the Commonwealth Games final, storming to gold in a new Games record of 9.83 seconds, making him the fastest man in Commonwealth Games history. His winning time eclipsed the previous Games record and further cemented his status among the world's elite sprinters.

The victory is another milestone in the inspiring career of the former goalkeeper and civil engineer, whose late transition to athletics has become one of the sport's most remarkable success stories.
