BREAKING: FIFA has officially abandoned its controversial plan to sell minority investment stakes in the commercial rights of the FIFA World Cup and other major tournaments following strong opposition from football's governing bodies.

The proposal faced fierce resistance from UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and CONCACAF, with UEFA even threatening to boycott FIFA competitions if the plan went ahead. Together, the opposition represented a majority of FIFA's 211 member associations, forcing FIFA President Gianni Infantino to withdraw the proposal.

Infantino confirmed the plan would not proceed, saying FIFA's priority is to reunite the global football community and continue growing the game.
